From Diagnosis to Treatment: Exploring the Stages of Prostate Cancer

Advanced Prostate Cancer (Stage IV)

• Hormone Therapy: Lowering levels of testosterone, which prostate cancer cells rely on to grow. 

• Chemotherapy: Using drugs to kill rapidly growing cells, including cancer cells. 

• Radiation Therapy: Targeting areas where cancer has spread to relieve symptoms and control growth. 

• Immunotherapy: Helping the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells more effectively. 

• Surgery: Radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate, seminal vesicles and lymph nodes) may still be offered to a select group of patients or orchiectomy (or orchidectomy – removal of both testes) as part of palliative treatment.
