Physiotherapy, corticosteroids injection or surgery.
Physiotherapy, with a focus on shoulder range of movement, is the primary treatment recommendation for frozen shoulder. Your physiotherapist will also perform other types of treatment to help regaining your shoulder movements for instance
If patients do not respond to physiotherapy, corticosteroids injection might be suggested as a second line of treatment. It improves pain by reducing the inflammation within the joint. The treatment effect normally lasts 14-16 weeks.
Patients should have intense physiotherapy sessions to maximise the response of the injection. The shoulder capsule will loosen up and range of movement exercises should be performed regularly. If injections do not help at all, surgery is an option for frozen shoulder too.
