How Often Should I Get a Pap Smear?

Recommended intervals for pap smear examinations based on age.

Healthy women should have their first Pap smear at the age of 21.

Women aged 21-29 should have their Pap smears at minimum every three years unless a Pap smear result is abnormal. In this case, more frequent testing may be necessary.

Women aged 30 and above should also have a regular HPV test with a Pap smear. If the results are normal, the test frequency can be then be extended to every five years. An annual gynaecological checkup should be performed between the tests.
