A lighter or heavier flow than usual, prolonged bleeding or spotting in-between periods may indicate something more serious
Unless you are pregnant, it is not crucial to see a doctor immediately if you missed a period and only observe one or two irregular cycles. Occasional changes in hormone levels in your body may alter the cycle.
However, if you have irregular periods for more than 3 months and this is accompanied by a lighter or heavier flow than usual, prolonged bleeding or spotting in-between periods, you might need to consult a doctor.
It is always a good habit to keep a record of your menstrual cycle pattern. You can record the number of days of bleeding, the amount of bleeding, and if there are any cramps or irregular bleeding in between the cycles. These are important pieces of information especially when you are going to see a Gynaecologist. There are a lot of mobile apps nowadays that can help. If you are in doubt about any period problem, please don’t hesitate to consult your doctor.
