Usage

What is Yaz used for? 

Yaz is primarily used to prevent pregnancy. Additionally, it is effective in treating symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and is used in the management of moderate acne in women who seek an oral contraceptive for birth control. 


How do you use Yaz?  

Availability:

Yaz is available in tablet form.

Dosage information:

  • One tablet daily, preferably at the same time each day. 
  • Follow the 24/4 day regimen: 24 active hormone pills followed by 4 placebo pills. 

Suitability across different age groups:  

  • Children: Not recommended for pre-pubertal children. 
  • Adults: Suitable for women of reproductive age. 
  • Elderlies: Generally not applicable, as it is not recommended post-menopause. 

Is there anyone who can’t take Yaz? 

  • Children: Not to be used by children. 
  • Adults: Women over 35 who smoke should not use Yaz. 
  • Elderlies: Not recommended for use. 
  • Pregnancy: Should not be taken during pregnancy. 
  • Lactation: Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. 
  • Breast & other cancers: Not for use in patients with breast cancer or estrogen or progesterone-sensitive cancers. 
  • Liver disease or tumors: Not indicated for patients with these conditions. 
  • Arterial or venous thromboembolic disorders: Not for patient at high risk for blood clot formation 

Allergies and other contraindications: 
Individuals allergic to ethinyl estradiol, drospirenone, or any inactive ingredients in Yaz should avoid it. 


Warnings and Precautions:

Take after meals to reduce stomach upset. Avoid smoking as it increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects.

  • Avoid using with drugs that have a high potential to increase potassium levels. 
  • Should not be used in people with renal impairment, adrenal insufficiency, or liver disease. 

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, headache, and breast tenderness. Severe side effects may include blood clots and hypertension.
