Experience
Gira has worked as a Mental Health Counsellor/ CBT therapist at OT&P since October 2014. She graduated in 1999 from Leeds University Medical School, UK, and is a qualified, registered psychiatrist in the UK but not registered as a psychiatrist in Hong Kong. During her years of training in psychiatry in the UK's NHS system, she gained experience in General and Old Age Psychiatry, Perinatal Psychiatry, Liaison Psychiatry and Psychotherapies. She acquired her MRCPsych in 2005. Some of Gira's special interests are anxiety, stress/ burnout, depression, insomnia, psychological complications of chronic illness and women-specific mental health issues (perinatal and perimenopausal/ postmenopausal life-stages).
Gira primarily uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Schema therapy approaches to help people learn effective coping tools or to more deeply understand the roots of their feelings and behaviours in order to make desired change. Gira can also advise on lifestyle changes and the use of natural supplements to optimise mental health and wellbeing. Gira sees adult patients aged 18 and over.
