Menstrual Disorders

Uterine Fibroids 

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus).

A doctor will conduct an assessment followed by an ultrasound to determine the total number of fibroids and their size and location. Depending on your test results, the doctor will recommend a treatment between watching waiting or a surgical procedure. 

Surgical treatments involve hysteroscopic resection, laparoscopic or open myomectomy. 

Dysmenorrhoea  

Dysmenorrhoea is a medical term for painful periods.

A doctor will conduct a series of investigations, including an ultrasound, to determine the causes for dysmenorrhoea. Depending on the result, our doctors will recommend medical or hormonal treatment. 

PCOS 

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition affecting both adolescent and adult women. It is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with menstrual periods and make it difficult for her to conceive. The symptoms include irregular or no periods, acne and hair overgrowth, especially around the lips. If not treated, it can cause diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol leading to heart disease.

Patients usually present with menstrual abnormalities. The doctor will first obtain the patient's history and identify the causes - whether the reason is a hormonal imbalance or other conditions such as the presence of any ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, endometrial polyp, cervical polyps or cancer. 

Our doctors will perform physical examination and ultrasound or blood tests to look for any abnormality in the cervix, uterus and ovaries and check your hormone levels. Depending on the result, the doctor will recommend follow-up treatment.

Endometriosis 

A condition where tissue similar to the womb's lining starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Patients may present with pain and cramps or other menstrual irregularities. Many women dismiss simple menstrual pain, when they in fact may be suffering from endometriosis. 

Polyps

Polyps are benign overgrowths in the cervix, womb or vagina. They can be asymptomatic, but can also present with bleeding during the mid-stage of a menstrual cycle.

Our doctors will conduct a physical examination followed by an ultrasound to determine the polyp’s number, size and location.

In some cases, cervical polyps can be removed directly at the clinic in a safe and straightforward procedure with ring forceps. In other cases, our doctors may recommend hysteroscopic resection to remove them.

Vulva & Vaginal Disorders

A wide spectrum of gynaecological problems could involve the vagina and vulva, such as infections, decreased secretion or sexual problems. The symptoms are vaginal discharge, vaginal odour, itchiness or pain.

Our doctors will first obtain a detailed health history, including questions on sexual practices. We will then conduct a physical examination to inspect the vulva and the vagina. In some cases, doctors may take vaginal swabs to check for infection. If needed, the doctor may perform a screening to eliminate the fear of sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

An infection of the female upper genital tract, including the womb, fallopian tubes and ovaries.

If you are experiencing abdominal pain, fever and abnormal vaginal discharge, it can be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. 

Our doctors will enquire into your health history and perform a physical examination to check for signs and symptoms of infection.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases can sometimes present themselves with a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, skin lesions and swollen lymph nodes. Relatively common sexually transmitted diseases include genital herpes, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis.

Our doctors will take a history of your sexual practices, the symptoms that you are experiencing and perform a physical examination. We may also take samples from inside your vagina or blood tests.

Pap Smears & HPV Vaccinations

A Pap smear is a procedure that checks for the presence of cancerous and precancerous cells from the cervix. It is a health screening method that allows for interventions to prevent cervical cancer and not as a diagnostic test for cervical cancer. There is another form of screening that you should also be aware of: colposcopy.
