What is Menopause?

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life, marking the end of menstrual cycles. It is officially diagnosed after 12 months without a menstrual period and typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 but can vary widely. Menopause can bring about significant physical and emotional changes due to shifting hormone levels, primarily a decrease in estrogen and progesterone.

Women may experience changes that can impact daily life and well-being, but menopause is also a time of transition that can lead to new beginnings and perspectives.

Menopause FAQs

Can menopause be delayed?

While it's impossible to permanently delay the natural onset of menopause, a healthy lifestyle, such as maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise, may help manage symptoms and potentially influence its timing slightly.

Why does menopause cause weight gain?

Menopause can lead to weight gain due to hormonal changes, particularly a decrease in estrogen levels, which can affect body fat distribution and make it easier to gain weight, especially around the abdomen.

Does menopause cause breast pain?

Yes, menopause can cause breast pain or tenderness, often due to hormonal fluctuations during the transition phase leading up to menopause (perimenopause).

Does menopause cause high blood pressure?

Menopause itself doesn't directly cause high blood pressure, but the changes in hormone levels and weight gain associated with menopause may increase the risk of developing high blood pressure.

What diet is good for menopause?

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats is beneficial during menopause. It's also helpful to include foods high in calcium and vitamin D for bone health and to stay hydrated. Limiting caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods can help manage hot flashes.
